Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Benue State has announced plans to join its national counterpart in shutting down government health facilities nationwide.
According to NMA state public relations officer Dr Chuwan Martins, the decision followed an emergency congress held on Saturday, during which members expressed deep dissatisfaction with the federal government’s handling of their welfare.
He said, “The shutdown is in response to poor remuneration and what the association describes as ‘reckless actions’ by the federal government.”
“NMA also condemned a recent circular reviewing allowances for medical and dental officers in the federal public service, describing it as ‘injurious and demeaning’.
The association, however, urged the federal government to swiftly implement its demands to avert the industrial action.
