A 33-year-old Point of Sale (PoS) operator, Mary Komi, has been docked in a Dutse Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly misappropriating N1.29 million belonging to her employer.
Komi, who lives in Zuba, Abuja, was charged with theft yesterday.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that prosecution counsel, Mr Otobha Okpa, told the court that the defendant’s employer, Mr Bala Musa, reported the matter at the Zuba Police Headquarters on March 27.
He told the court that the defendant was employed by the complainant as a PoS operator in Zuba Garage in Abuja.
Okpa said that the complainant entrusted the sum of N1.46 million to the defendant to run the business.
He alleged that Komi converted the money to her personal use.
The prosecutor said that during the investigation and interrogation, N170,000 was recovered from the defendant, leaving a balance of N1.29 million.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Evelyn Dara, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 and one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the surety must have a reliable means of identification and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
Dara adjourned the matter to September 15 for hearing.
