The Presidency is to establish a coordinated support system for wives and widows of Nigerian military personnel.
Senior special assistant to the president on community engagement (North Central), Abiodun Essiet, led a meeting with the minister of women affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, on the proposal.
The initiative, in partnership with the Stand With A Girl Initiative, is aimed at creating a coordinated support ecosystem for wives and widows of military personnel.
According to the key points of the proposal, the initiative seeks to institutionalise multi-sectoral support covering psychosocial services, economic empowerment, healthcare access, and strengthened social protection for military families.
During the meeting, the minister commended the proposal as timely and aligned with the federal government’s 2026 “Year of Family and Social Development” agenda.
She also inaugurated a committee to review modalities for effective implementation of the proposed support system.
