Catherine, Princess of Wales, made a subtle fashion statement as she began her official visit to Reggio Emilia on May 13.

The Princess of Wales arrived at Piazza Camillo Prampolini in a tailored blue suit designed by Canadian-British fashion designer Edeline Lee as part of her trip focused on early childhood education initiatives.

Kate paired the outfit with a white blouse, a baby blue handbag, tan heels, and pearl jewellery, continuing her now-signature polished pantsuit style that has become a staple of her royal wardrobe since becoming Princess of Wales in 2022.

The visit highlights the expansion of her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood internationally, with the princess learning more about Reggio Emilia’s globally recognised approach to early childhood education.

Despite sticking to her familiar fashion formula, royal watchers noted a surprising colour choice. During international visits, Kate has often embraced “flag dressing” — a royal tradition popularised by Elizabeth II in which outfits reflect the colours of a host nation’s flag.

However, instead of wearing the red, white or green associated with Italy’s national flag, the princess opted for a soft blue ensemble for her first appearance in the country.
