Provost, Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun, Prof. Jimoh Atanda Afolabi, has charged all stakeholders including government at all levels, parents, lecturers, students to be actively involved in raising the bar of standard of education in the country.
At an interactive session with journalists at Ila Orangun, Osun State, the provost attributed the giant stride in infrastructure development on the campus of his institution to good leadership.
He said endemic mismanagement of funds in the past had hindered physical development in the institution even in the days of massive enrolment of students when internally generated revenue was at its peak.
While commending his predecessor, Oyewole and the bursar, Dr. Olarewaju Oyedeji for their commitment to infrastructural development in the school, Afolabi said his resolve to emulate their achievements informed the massive development being witnessed on the campus .
Corroborating his submissions, Oyedeji said what the institution was doing differently that culminated in the gigantic structures littering the campus was achieved through probity, transparency, accountability and prudence adding that he was able to sanitise the bursary department when he came on board.
His words, “What we are doing differently is transparency, probity and accountability. I remember when I came on board we invited auditors to come and audit what we have on ground and where I am starting from so that at the point of exit, I would be able to evaluate what I meet on ground and what I am leaving behind”.
He said it was difficult for the institution to access funds from Tetfund when they came on board because it has already been blacklisted due to mismanagement of funds adding that Tetfund insisted that the institution must right all that was wrong to access any fund again.
“I want to tell you that we have recovered over N100 million from various people, we then wrote TETFund that this is the money the Economic and Finacial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered and had been paid back into the college purse, please can we use this money to continue the projects we requested fund for and TETFund approved It.’’
