Popular comedian and activist Adebowale Adedayo, known as Mr Macaroni, has launched a blistering critique against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following the Minister’s explosive remarks about Channels TV anchor Seun Okinbaloye.
During a recent media chat, Wike reportedly expressed intense anger over Okinbaloye’s questioning of the leadership crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the risks of a one-party system in Nigeria. In a moment that has since gone viral, the Minister claimed that if he could break through the television screen, he would have shot the journalist for his line of questioning.
Reacting via his X account on Saturday, Mr Macaroni described the Minister’s rhetoric as a sign of deep-seated tyranny within the current administration.
“This is a so-called ‘serving’ Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria saying in a live broadcast that he wished he could have shot and killed a Nigerian journalist,” the comedian wrote. “A country where public servants become tyrants because they know there is no consequence for impropriety.”
The comedian’s remarks reflect a broader wave of public outrage, with many netizens condemning the normalisation of threats against the press. Critics noted that while Wike’s comments drew laughter from some journalists at the briefing, the underlying message poses a significant threat to media freedom in Nigeria.
This isn’t the first time Mr Macaroni has tackled the FCT Minister or the federal government; he recently labelled the administration “useless” following a fresh wave of killings in Plateau State, demanding greater accountability for the lives of Nigerian citizens.
