The Yobe State Government has announced a N20 million donation in support of participants at the 40th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, held in Maiduguri, Borno State.
A statement issued by the Press Secretary to the SSG, Shuaibu Abdullahi said Governor Mai Mala Buni made the announcement at the closing ceremony of the week-long competition at the Convocation Square of the University of Maiduguri.
The governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Baba Malam Wali commended the Borno State Government under the leadership of Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for successfully hosting the national event, and praised the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, for organizing the competition.
Buni equally congratulated all the winners and participants, describing the event as a platform that promotes Islamic scholarship, moral discipline, unity, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Also in his address, Governor Zulum said the successful hosting of the 2025 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition reflected the return of peace and stability to Borno State and the wider North-East region, noting that the event underscored the people’s commitment to education, peace, and knowledge advancement.
At the end of the competition, Borno State emerged overall winner in the male category, with Musa Ahmed Musa clinching the top prize, while Hafsat Muhammad Sada of Kano State won the overall female title.
The Director of the Centre for Islamic Studies, Professor Abubakar Yelwa has while speaking said, the competition featured 296 contestants from 30 states, competing in six categories.
The event was attended by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Dikko Umaru Radda, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, traditional rulers, lawmakers, Islamic scholars, and other dignitaries.
