RAAMP Trains Staff, Stakeholders In Road Safety

The Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP)  has trained  its staff and stakeholders in road infrastructure on the importance of road safety awareness and community participation in reducing road traffic crashes across rural communities.

The two-day workshop brought together representatives of government agencies, road safety stakeholders, RAAMP officials from Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina states, as well as development partners to explore strategies for improving road safety awareness and reducing accidents on rural roads.

At the opening of the workshop, the commissioner for Rural and Social Development, Prof. Abdulhamid Ahmed, described the training as timely and necessary, particularly as the rainy season sets in and road safety concerns increase across the state.

He commended the organizers for initiating the programme at a critical period and urged participants to pay close attention to the sessions and actively engage in discussions.

The commissioner reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting RAAMP in achieving its objectives, emphasizing the strong collaboration between government agencies and the project implementation team.

According to him, the ministry will continue to provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to ensure the successful execution of road projects and safety interventions across the state.

Also speaking, the National Coordinator of RAAMP, Engr. Aminu Muhammed Budinga, encouraged participants to promote community ownership of road safety initiatives.

He stressed that involving local communities and relevant stakeholders would enhance the sustainability of interventions and ensure that road safety measures continue to have a lasting impact even after project implementation.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Katsina State Project Coordinator of RAAMP, Engr. Yusuf Yahaya, highlighted the project’s commitment to ensuring safer and more sustainable roads across the state.

He noted that although RAAMP is primarily focused on improving rural road infrastructure, road safety remains a critical component of its mandate.

According to him, road traffic crashes continue to claim lives, cause injuries, and impose economic hardship on families and communities, adding that effective implementation of safety measures can significantly reduce such incidents.

Yahaya explained that the workshop was designed to enhance participants’ knowledge, build practical skills, and deepen their understanding of road safety principles.

He added that the training would strengthen institutional capacity and improve coordination among stakeholders involved in road development and safety management.

Organizers expressed optimism that the workshop would contribute significantly to safer roads, improved transportation systems, and better socio-economic outcomes for residents across Katsina State.
