Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved a fresh round of food distribution to vulnerable households across the 17 Local Government Areas of Yobe State as part of ongoing efforts to cushion hardship and support residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

The intervention, which includes the distribution of rice and other essential food items, is designed to complement the existing Ramadan feeding centres earlier established by the administration to ensure that vulnerable families observe the fasting period with dignity and relief.

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), in collaboration with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Yobe State chapter, has commenced the movement and delivery of truckloads of food items to all parts of the state for onward distribution to beneficiaries.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Local Government Councils, ALGON Chairman, Alhaji Bukar Adamu, commended Governor Buni for the additional support, describing it as timely and impactful, assuring a transparent and accountable measures towards ensuring that the food items reach the intended beneficiaries promptly.

The chairman also pledged the commitment of local government authorities to ensure fair and efficient distribution, particularly to the most vulnerable households in their communities.

Speaking during the handover, the Executive Secretary of SEMA described the exercise as the “second layer” of Ramadan support by the state government, noting that additional interventions are being planned to reach more vulnerable groups.

Dr Goje said the government’s response remains guided by the needs of the people, adding that more communities and groups would benefit from the support as the Ramadan programme progresses.

In further demonstration of his administration’s sustained investment in education and human capital development, Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved scholarships for an additional 148 indigenes of Yobe State admitted into the 2026 academic session of the Nigerian Law School.

The beneficiaries received financial grants, laptops and other support packages aimed at easing the burden of legal education and enhancing their academic performance.

The approval was announced during a joint meeting of the Yobe State Scholarship Board convened for the disbursement of funds.

The governor was represented at the meeting by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Bello Kawuwa.

The Executive Secretary of the Scholarship Board, Dr. Kagu Abubakar has while speaking said each beneficiary was awarded a scholarship grant of N475,000 alongside a brand-new laptop to facilitate their studies and ensure a conducive learning experience.

The ES explained that the intervention forms part of the state government’s deliberate efforts to support qualified indigenes pursuing professional careers in law and to strengthen the state’s human resource base.

Dr. Abubakar further disclosed that with the latest sponsorship, the total number of Yobe law graduates supported by the Buni administration since 2020 has increased to 719, noting that many of the beneficiaries have successfully completed their programmes and are now contributing to the justice sector and national development.

In addition, Governor Buni approved financial assistance for 11 candidates undertaking resit examinations at the Nigerian Law School, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ensuring that no qualified indigene is denied the opportunity to attain professional certification due to financial constraints.

The sustained sponsorship of students to professional institutions, particularly the Nigerian Law School, has become a defining feature of the Buni administration’s education policy, aimed at expanding access to higher education, empowering youths with critical skills and building a pool of competent professionals for the development of Yobe State and the country at large.

“This continuing intervention in education has, over the years, become one of the hallmarks of the Buni administration. Deliberate, purposeful, futuristic.”
