NIS, National Judicial Institute Seal Partnership To Boost Sports Development

The National Institute for Sports (NIS) and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen institutional collaboration, enhance capacity building, and advance sports development in Nigeria.

The agreement was signed yesterday at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, Comrade Philip Shaibu, described the partnership as a significant step towards deepening cooperation between government institutions in support of national development.

Shaibu said the collaboration would promote knowledge sharing, improve sports administration and build institutional capacity, stressing that greater synergy among public institutions is essential to repositioning the country’s sports sector.

He also called for stronger inter-agency collaboration, noting that government funding alone can no longer sustain sports development in Nigeria.

Drawing on his experience as a former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Shaibu said that strategic partnerships and alternative funding sources had become imperative to ensure that Nigerian athletes and teams continue to participate effectively in regional and international competitions.

According to him, partnerships with key government institutions will help address some of the financial and administrative challenges confronting the sports sector while supporting ongoing reforms at the National Institute for Sports.

In his remarks, the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute, Hon. Justice Adejumo, commended Shaibu for his leadership and commitment to repositioning the National Institute for Sports.

He described the reforms introduced under Shaibu’s administration as bold initiatives capable of strengthening sports development and improving professional capacity in the sector.

Justice Adejumo expressed optimism that the new partnership would foster greater collaboration between the two institutions and create opportunities for knowledge exchange and institutional growth.

The Memorandum of Understanding marks the beginning of a formal partnership between the National Institute for Sports and the National Judicial Institute, with both organisations expressing confidence that the collaboration will contribute meaningfully to the development of sports administration and capacity building in Nigeria.
