The victors of the 2026 FIFA World Cup are set to receive an unprecedented $50m in prize money, FIFA has confirmed. This record sum forms part of a colossal $727m financial pot to be distributed among the 48 competing nations in the United States, Mexico, and Canada next year.
The overall fund will see $727m allocated to teams based on their tournament performance, ranging from $9m for group stage exits to $33m for the losing finalists. This marks a significant increase from the $42 million awarded to Argentina for their 2022 triumph in Qatar.
Despite a recent controversy surrounding ticket prices, which saw FIFA reduce costs for a limited number of seats after a global fan backlash, the governing body announced the substantial prize fund during the FIFA Council in Doha, Qatar.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11th, with co-hosts Mexico facing South Korea in Mexico City.
