Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has urged the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, to reinstate Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja), citing concerns over equity and fairness.

The Senator made the appeal via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday morning, where he condemned what he described as selective reinstatement of sacked university administrators.

Shehu Sani, an activist, drew attention to the recent reinstatement of Professor Stella Ngozi Lemchi as Vice Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, questioning why a similar gesture had not been extended to Professor Maikudi.

“Two female Vice Chancellors were removed by the Education Minister, Professor Stella Ngozi Lemchi of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education and Professor Aisha Maikudi of UniAbuja. While the former has been reinstated, the latter has not. What is good for the goose should be good for the gander,” the former senator wrote.

He maintained that the Ministry of Education must uphold principles of justice and equity in its decisions, especially when it involves high-ranking academic leadership.

“The Honuorable Minister should reinstate Professor Aisha Maikudi for fairness, equity, and justice,” the former lawmaker stated.

The Ministry of Education was yet to respond to the call or provide further clarity on the criteria used for the reinstatement of Professor Lemchi and the continued sidelining of Professor Maikudi.

LEADERSHIP reports that Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi, who had served as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, was removed from office earlier this year by the visitor to the University, President Bola Tinubu, under circumstances that remain contentious in academic circles.
