Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Wife of the Adamawa State Governor, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, have distributed free sanitary pads to hundreds of schoolgirls during the launch of the “Flow with Confidence” Menstrual Hygiene Initiative in Yola.

The programme, held at Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Yola, was organised by the Office of the Wife of the President in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Adamawa State Governor.

The initiative is aimed at supporting adolescent girls and promoting menstrual hygiene across 424 secondary schools in the 21 Local Government Areas of Adamawa State.

Speaking during the event, Hajiya Lami Fintiri, who also serves as the Adamawa State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, appreciated Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative, for what she described as a thoughtful and impactful intervention for girls across the country.

She said the programme goes beyond the distribution of sanitary pads, stressing that it is designed to restore dignity, build confidence, promote education, and provide hope for the girl child.

According to her, each of the 407 mixed secondary schools in the state will receive 20 packs of sanitary pads, while 17 girls-only secondary schools, including Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Yola, will receive 50 packs each.

Hajiya Lami Fintiri called on principals, traditional rulers, community leaders, teachers, and parents to support the initiative and ensure that the sanitary pads reach the intended beneficiaries, especially girls in rural communities.

Earlier, the Adamawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs commended the First Lady of Nigeria and the wife of the governor for championing the initiative. She urged the students to embrace the theme, “Flow with Confidence,” while emphasizing the importance of proper personal hygiene during and after menstruation.

Also speaking, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Post Primary Schools Management Board, represented by Hajiya Fadimatu Bello Furo, appreciated the organisers for making the programme a reality. She encouraged the students to remain confident during their menstrual periods and stay focused on their education without fear, anxiety, or embarrassment.

Highlights of the event included a drama presentation by students and a comedy performance focused on menstrual health management and educating girls on how to confidently manage issues related to menstruation.
