‘Nobody Coming To Save You In 2027’, Activist Aisha Yesufu Tells Nigerians

FCT Polls: Aisha Yesufu Urges Massive Voter Turnout By Orjime Moses, Abuja Activist Aisha Yesufu has urged residents of Abuja to treat the February 21 Area Council Elections as a critical electoral test capable of shaping future political alignments in the territory. She said this against the backdrop of an old video in which President Bola Tinubu recalled how the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, approached him to intervene in governance challenges in the FCT to enable improved performance and project delivery in the territory. Reacting via her verified handle on X, Yesufu alleged that political activities surrounding the FCT were largely driven by power considerations rather than governance priorities. According to her, low voter turnout had historically influenced outcomes of council elections in the FCT, warning that limited participation could distort the true mandate of residents. She called on eligible voters to turn out massively for the polls to ensure that the final results reflect the will of the electorate. Yesufu also cautioned against interpreting the outcome of the council elections as evidence of political dominance in the FCT, stressing that residents must use the exercise to assert their electoral voice. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission is expected to conduct elections across the six area councils of the FCT, with political parties intensifying campaigns and voter mobilisation efforts. End.
