Retired Director Faults Civil Service Retirement Benefits

A retired director of the Federal Civil Service Selman Dashe, has raised concerns over retirement package for Nigerian civil servants. He insisted that the package isn’t exactly generous adding that one need be creative to be able to survived post retirement period.

Dashe made the disclosure during his retirement Thanksgiving and Birthday celebration at Jonggrand hotel Jos at the weekend .

LEADERSHIP reports that the retired director served the Federal Civil Service for 33 years and retired in January, 2026 inline with the federal government 8 years tenure policy for directors.

He further lamented that Plateau State has no strategic plan for civil servants post-retirement. He urged the state government to address these as a matter of urgency

On the new tax law policy, being implemented by the federal government, Dashe said, “I thinks it’s favourable to retirees, with certain income streams being tax-free, including pension thresholds.”

Also speaking on the level of insecurity bedeviling the country, he maintained that Nigeria should leverage on emerging technology to deal with security challenges confronting the country.

He said the country should take a cue from Turkey.”They used technology to tackle similar issues in their country and now, there are relatively peaceful,” Dashe said.

On his part, Brigadier General Jon Temlong (retd) advised the celebrant to stay active, read widely, and keep contributing to the development of his immediate community.

He also encouraged Plateau indigenes working outside the state to stay connected and support their roots, while those at home should appreciate their representatives’ efforts
to bring development to their home state .

Meanwhile, the senator representing Plateau South Barr Simon Lalong, represented by Hon. Exodus Pyennap, in his remarks, described Selman Dashe as a man with many part adding that he is almost a perfect human being that has touched so many lives in his community, state and Nigeria at large.
