Rising Soccer Star Slumps, Dies During Local Derby In Oyo

An upcoming soccer star, Oyekunle Baaki, has been confirmed dead after he slumped while playing football in Okeho, Kajola local government area of Oyo State.

 

27-year-old Baaki, who is popularly known as Smart, was a player with United FC Okeho.

 

He died Wednesday night while featuring in Eleniyan football competition between his team and Accurate FC of Iganna, both in Oyo State.

 

Tragedy struck in the extra time of the match after it ended goalless in the regular time.

A source narrated that the player took taking photographs with some players and uploaded same on his Snapchat before the match commenced.

 

“He was alone, nobody was with him, he just slumped and people rushed to help him but he died before they got to the hospital,” the fan, who did not want to be mentioned, said.
