The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has called on the newly – elected members of the State House of Assembly for Ahoada-East Constituency 2 and Khana Constituency 2, Napoleon Ukalikpe and Mrs. Henrietta Loolo, to embark on programmes and policies that will make up for the years lost by their constituents.
The two constituency seats in the House of Assembly had been vacant since 2023, following the death of the member representing Khana Constituency 2, Hon. Dinebari Loolo, and the resignation of the member representing Ahoada-East Constituency 2, Hon. Edison Ehie.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP in an interview in Port Harcourt yesterday, APC youth leader in Rivers South-East senatorial district, Hon. Innocent Ajaelu, said people from the two constituencies following the prolonged vacancy in their seats at the House of Assembly.
“Circumstances made the two constituencies not to have representatives at the House of Assembly, not that the electorates didn’t elect or didn’t want.
“But be that as it may, I urge the two new House of Assembly members to liaise with their colleagues and find out the things they have missed or what their constituencies have missed, so that within the time that is left for them, they can try and see what they can do so that their constituents will benefit from the dividends of democracy.
“I know that it is very difficult to bring back time that have been spent, but the little time left for them, let them show that if they were there before now, they would have created impact,” Ajaelu said.
The APC youth leader stated that the performance of Ukalikpe and Loolo in the remaining few months in the House, would determine whether their respective constituents will re-elect them in 2027.
He said, “There is a way that this two new House of Assembly members will perform and their constituents will say, okay, for this one year we gave to you, this is what you have done; so, you will do better if we give you four years. The onus lies on them now to say, this little time, let us impact positively on our constituencies.”
Ajaelu stated that the outcome of the February 21, 2026 bye-election in the state, sent warning sign to members of other political parties to to join APC, insisting that there is no other formidable political party in the state outside the ruling party.
“Let me first congratulate the winners of Ahoada-East Constituency 2 and Khana Constituency 2 in the just concluded bye-election. Secondly, let me say that this is a warning sign to all other mushroom political parties to come and join APC. There is no other party in Rivers State other than APC,” he said.
