The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Rivers State has said it apprehended a total of 352 traffic offenders during the just-concluded zonal special intervention patrol in the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, Doris Ebor, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday said the offences of those apprehended included
seat-belt violation, overloading, route violation (popularly called one-way), number plate violation, drivers licence violation and tyre violation.
The statement said the zonal special intervention patrol, code-named “Operation Shark Smile”, was conducted simultaneously across the sector and unit commands of the state from July 20 to July 22, 2026.
It said the special patrol was part of the Corps’ sustained efforts to improve compliance with traffic regulations, strengthen enforcement and reduce road traffic crashes within the state and zone.
The statement stated that the exercise was also focused on identifying and correcting dangerous traffic violations while intensifying public enlightenment on responsible road use and promoting a culture of safety among all road users.
Meanwhile, the sector commander, Francis Ajatta, has stated that the rise in number of people apprehended for route violation underscores the continuous disregard by some motorists to traffic rules with the practise capable of resulting in road crashes.
Ajatta, who further stated that disregard to traffic rules will no longer be condoned in the state, urged all road users in the state to always comply with traffic regulations and also cooperate with FRSC personnel in the collective effort to make the state and nation’s highways safer.
