Honourable Kelechi Nwogu, a Rivers State House of Assembly member, representing Omuma State Constituency has continued to grow bigger and bigger in the political sphere of Rivers State as he sets his sight on the Federal House of Representatives after a sterling service to his constituency in the State. It was no big surprise when he was announced by the Rivers State PDP leadership as the consensus candidate of PDP.

Apart from being a staunch party man, Nwogu’s track record as a lawman precedes him and seems to place him ahead in line for the next level. The call to contest for the House of Representatives was made from different parts of Etche nation comprising Etche and Omuma LGAs, demanding that he replicates the things he has been doing for Omuma people to the entire Etche Ethnic Nation.

“The people of Etche Ethnic Nation are yearning to have him represent them at the Federal House of Representatives come 2023. Apart from being up and doing in legislative business, he has also executed and attracted many great projects to his constituency and these projects have the capacity to sell him to the people of Etche Ethnic Nation,”says a source from the constituency.

Some of the projects that speak in his favour include; Electrification of the rural Communities in Omuma LGA and provision of transformers in Umueze, Umuofeke, Umuocham,Umukelebulu, Umuroke, Umuisu and Umuabali communities.

He is said to be responsible for building a 5000 capacity Multi Purpose Hall for Omuma people irrespective of political parties, called Hon. Kelechi Nwogu’s Legacy Hall. He built a standard Mini Stadium in Eberi as well as halls in Umukelebulu, Umuakirikpo and Umuroke (some are ongoing).

Also, apart from renovation of schools in Omuma LGA, especially some UBE schools that were dilapidated, he sponsors the annual Omuma Unity Football Cup which has been organized for 8 years now. This event is reputed to be a source of ‘unity’ in Omuma LGA with heavy financial empowerment to the winners of different categories.

Beyond exposing the youths of Omuma LGA to leadership positions at different levels, he sponsors the Omuma Cultural Festival where people get empowered after playing part in different competitions.

His exploits in uplifting the fortunes of his people include; Gifting of brand new cars to the winners of Miss Omuma Beauty Pageant and empowerment of participants; Scholarship and educational grant scheme; Attraction of the elevation of Omuma traditional stool to First Class Government recognised stool; and he has attracted about 17km road constructed and commissioned by the State Government cutting across many communities in Omuma LGA.

Most importantly, Hon. Kelechi Nwogu has announced the identity of Omuma LGA to the whole world and Omuma is now a household name in Rivers State.

“These are testaments to his credibility and candidature. This is evidence that he has the capacity to offer quality representation to the people of Etche Ethnic Nation if elected as a member of the Federal House of Representatives in 2023. We have tested him and he has proven to be a sound and people-oriented politician with his policies and programmes,” a source from the constituency affirms.

Evidence abound that Nwogu is very conscious about the wellbeing of the people of his community. In 2020, during the youth’s protest against the ills of the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), he reportedly led the people of Omuma to the peaceful protest.
