Legendary tenor José Carreras will kick off Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic countdown with a star-studded open-air concert at the Gabba Cricket Ground on December 5.

The one-night-only Australian exclusive, billed as Carreras & Friends, will see the Spanish opera icon joined by Robbie Williams, The Corrs, Katherine Jenkins, Ronan Keating, Savage Garden’s Darren Hayes, Natalie Imbruglia, Sheppard, Ann Wilson and Mark Vincent, each set to duet with Carreras on the night.

“I’m extremely happy to have this opportunity to start celebrating already the Olympics ’32 in Brisbane,” Carreras told Billboard from his hometown of Barcelona. “We hope it is a wonderful concert.”

The concert carries particular resonance for the 78-year-old, who has deep ties to the Olympic movement. In 1992, he served as musical director for the Barcelona Games, performing at both the Opening Ceremony, alongside Montserrat Caballé, and the Closing Ceremony, where he duetted with Sarah Brightman on ‘Amigos Para Siempre’.
