Sajaf Football Academy Foundation U-14 tournament ended with the hosts Sajaf Football Academy emerging victorious following a 3-2 win over Yerima FC in the final match.
A month-long tournament held in Luvu, Masaka in Karu local government area of Nasarawa State featured eight football teams.
The organizer and proprietor of Sajaf Football Academy, Coach Edwin Smart, said the tournament was organized to harness potentials of the boys during the month-long summer school holiday and to also take them away from the streets.
“Because there’s a tendency that these boys, especially children of their age might engage in one form of unwholesome activity, hence the need to organize such competitions to promote their God-giving abilities and to bring out their talents in football.
“I am a grassroots coach and from time to time we organize such competitions to discover talents for the future. We have been trying to engage stakeholders to believe in our dream and to invest in football by soliciting for sponsorship.”
“This year’s event, we were able to engage teams from neighbouring communities to participate and from there we are planning to expand the participation of teams by involving more academics within and outside Nasarawa state,” Smart said.
Presenting the trophy to the winning team, the chairman of the tournament, Hon. Yerima, urged both the winning and losing teams to always play in the spirit of brotherhood and express his gratitude to the organisers for coming up with such a fantastic tournament for talent hunt and for the love of football.
He expressed his readiness to always support the academy.
Coaches of both teams thank the organizers for the opportunity to participate and showcase the talents that are bound in their players.
They looked forward to more such competitions that will enable them to bring out football talents in the young boys that will eventually be part of the larger football family by playing for the country in future.
