As he acknowledged some positive trends in the naira and the broader economy, Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for caution.
He spoke to newsmen yesterday after a Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos.

The governor said some of the economic challenges faced earlier in the year are starting to ease faster than expected, with the naira showing signs of improvement.

However, he cautioned that the country is not out of the woods completely yet when it comes to the economic challenges it has faced.

The governor emphasised the need for continued vigilance and accelerated efforts from leaders to ease the burden on citizens.

He said, “To say that indeed some of the challenges we witnessed at the beginning of the year, we are beginning to see some ease faster than we expected. We are beginning to see our currency being turned around.

“We are beginning to see a gradual ease of the economic pressure. We are not out of the woods completely yet. We are beginning to see the ease of it.

“We as leaders need to redouble our efforts to do the work faster and quicker so that the citizens can have the ease we are hoping for and to ensure the security of lives and property is taken care of, but more importantly for my people in Lagos.”
Sanwo-Olu also urged Lagosians to exercise caution with combustible and flammable materials.

This comes after an unfortunate fire incident earlier on Tuesday, which the governor said he would be inspecting firsthand on Thursday morning.
Recall that about 14 buildings were affected on Tuesday by a fire outbreak on Dosumu Idumota street in Lagos Island.

“People must live responsibly, they must understand they must care for themselves and their neighbors,” Sanwo-Olu emphasized.

“This is what has led to where we are now and also what can help us move forward.”
The governor urged residents to maintain the spirit of unity and peace that has prevailed during the recent Lent and Ramadan seasons.

“Let’s know that it is the only thing that can continue to strengthen us and hold us as a nation,” said Sanwo-Olu.
