Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has suggested that the 2026 World Cup may be Lionel Messi’s final appearance at the tournament.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against Zambia, Scaloni acknowledged that 38-year-old Messi has not formally confirmed his participation but has been a full part of Argentina’s qualification campaign.

Scaloni stated his commitment to ensuring Messi enjoys what could be his last World Cup. “The important thing is that he comes and enjoys being at a World Cup – which, theoretically, will be his last,” Scaloni said. “We want him to enjoy it, because later on, you really miss playing in events like these.”
