Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State has arrested a 28-year-old housewife over alleged involvement in human trafficking.
The NSCDC spokesperson, Samuel Opebiyi, who disclosed this to journalists, said the suspect was arrested following a complaint received by its Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, while her husband and another accomplice are currently at large.
Opebiyi said the woman and her husband allegedly trafficked a 17-year-old girl out of the country for prostitution.
According to him, the case was reported on January 20 by the victim’s elder sister, leading to the suspect’s arrest on January 22.
He added that preliminary investigations revealed that the trafficking incident occurred on November 25, 2025.
“The victim was allegedly deceived with promises of employment before being taken abroad,” Opebiyi said.
He explained that investigations also showed that the victim was introduced to the suspects by an apprentice identified as Rodiat, who works at the suspect’s shop at Ifeleye market, Ogunpa, Ibadan.
The victim reportedly approached the apprentice in search of a job and was subsequently linked to the trafficking network,” he added.
Also speaking, the state’s Commandant of the NSCDC, Augustine Padonu, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of human trafficking to security agencies.
Padonu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating human trafficking and ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice.
“The arrested suspect will be charged in court, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend her husband and other accomplices,” he added.
