Security operatives have destroyed a kidnappers’ camp at Atabula in Duduguru community, Jenkwe Development Area of Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, rescuing a kidnapped victim and arresting three suspects.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the operation followed the abduction of a victim whose identity could not be immediately ascertained.

According to sources, operatives, acting on a tip-off, tracked one of the suspects to the kidnappers’ hideout at Atabula, where they raided and destroyed the camp on Wednesday.

The victim was rescued during the operation, while one suspect was arrested at the camp. Cash and other valuables were also recovered.

Two other suspects were subsequently tracked to a hotel in Lafia, where they had reportedly fled following intensified pressure from security operatives, and were arrested.

The development came barely two weeks after operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested three suspects linked to the abduction of Professor Samuel Avengbe Okunsebor, Dean of Agriculture at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK).

The professor’s alleged abductors were apprehended on August 7, 2026, at a local brothel along the Lafia-Makurdi highway in Mararaban Akunza.

Meanwhile, Governor Abdullahi Sule has commended security agencies in the state for their prompt response, which led to the rescue of victims and arrest of the suspected kidnappers.

The governor specifically hailed the DSS operatives for the recent covert operation that resulted in the arrest of three suspects in Jenkwe and Lafia.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, quoted Sule as describing the arrests as a demonstration of the effectiveness and dedication of security agencies in the fight against criminal elements in the state.

He urged the security agencies to sustain the momentum and remain resolute in their efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the state.

Sule also assured the security agencies of the continued support of his administration in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The governor appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible and useful information to security agencies, stressing that collective vigilance and cooperation were essential to maintaining peace and security in the state.
