The security team, according to the spokesman of Kebbi State Police Command, SP Nafi’u Abubakar, engaged the suspected bandits in a fierce gun battle in their attempts to kidnap travellers and pedestrians on the road near the two villages. Three suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and seven live ammunition were recovered.

Abubakar, who briefed newsmen on yesterday’s development in Birnin Kebbi, added that the Divisional Police Officer of Shanga council led the fierce gun battle with his team against the bandits.

He also disclosed that the commissioner of police, CP Bello M Sani, reiterated the importance of the command sustaining collaboration with the police, other security personnel, and the public in fighting banditry in the state.

The CP, while commending the bravery of the security team, urged them to maintain the tempo, stressing that prevention of crimes remains the best strategy in safeguarding the lives and properties of the citizenry in Kebbi State.
