Organisers of the upcoming Academy Awards, the Oscars, have announced plans to strengthen security measures ahead of this year’s ceremony following reports of a security alert issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation over a possible drone attack targeting California.

The 98th Academy Awards are scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026. The ceremony will honour films released in 2025 and will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles.

Producers of the awards show said additional safety measures would be put in place to protect guests, nominees, and attendees expected at the event.

Speaking during a press briefing ahead of the event, telecast executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan assured that security agencies are working closely with organisers to guarantee a safe environment.

Kapoor explained that law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department, are collaborating with event organisers to maintain safety before and during the ceremony.

“We have the support of the FBI and the LAPD, and it’s a close collaboration. We want everybody that is coming to the show, witnessing it, or even standing outside the barricades to feel safe and protected,” he said.

The heightened security follows reports that U.S. authorities had warned law enforcement agencies in California about a possible retaliatory drone attack allegedly linked to Iran.

According to the alert circulated to security officials in late February, the plan involved the potential use of unmanned aerial vehicles launched from an unidentified vessel off the U.S. coast.

However, authorities noted that there is currently no confirmed information regarding the timing, target or perpetrators of the alleged attack.

Meanwhile, Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, said his administration is monitoring developments closely in collaboration with security and intelligence agencies.

Newsom stated that although there are no immediate threats at the moment, authorities remain prepared to respond to any emergency.
