Seeking The Saviour For Genuine Salvation And Eternal Life

TEXT:  MARK 10:1-19; MATTHEW 19:16; LUKE 18:18, 20-23,26-27

It is the Redeemer, not the riches that gives us everything we need to get to heaven.

vs 25. Jesus said, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” As we come to seek the Lord and eternal, everlasting, and heavenly satisfaction, we must be willing to forsake all endangering substances.

3. Seeking Empty Supplies for the Eternal Soul (Isaiah 29:8; 28:20; Luke 12:16-26)

Our soul is eternal, and all earthly and mundane things we search for cannot satisfy our souls. They are all empty supplies.

Can we think together? In life, we spend six full days, Monday to Saturday seeking things that will not satisfy the soul, things that can only give food to the body, drink to our system, and temporal things to our body. We still have our spirit, soul, eternal element in us that when we die will go to the other side – either to the left or to the right, and we barely spend a fraction of Sunday seeking for the salvation of the soul. Then, all six days, we are head and shoulders busy, seeking for sand and cement, things on the surface of the earth. They don’t satisfy, yet, all these years, we’ve gone through that, not changing our perspective and seeking for things that satisfy the soul.

Isaiah 29:8. All the things that people are running after are called the mirage of life. When you are traveling, you look ahead, and it seems like you see a pool of water, it is a mirage, when you get there, it’s gone. You look ahead again, the pool of water has shifted to a farther distance. It is the mirage of life. We daydream a lot, having high hopes to have this and that, eventually it is only a dream, no reality there.

ch 28:20. Everything we do, seek, and amass in life are called the mirage of life. It is just like a bed that is shorter than a man’s height that he cannot lie conveniently on it, and the cover cloth that is narrow and it cannot be used to wrap the body completely. The bed is shorter than your strength and height, and the cover clothes is shorter than you can cover yourself, it does not satisfy.

Luke 16:22. The beggar did not have all the satisfaction he needed here, not only for 70, 80 or 100 years, but he went to Abraham’s bosom for 70, 80, 100, million, billion and trillion of years, forever and ever. Long satisfaction, brief and short dissatisfaction. On the other hand, the rich man died also, and was buried.

vs 23. From hell, he saw Lazarus in heaven, on Father Abraham’s bosom.

vs 24. He begged for Lazarus to dip his finger in water to cool his tongue because he was tormented in the flame. He had empty and brief supplies that could not prepare him for heaven for 70 to 100 years, and then he went to the other side, and discovered that the torment, pains, emptiness, helplessness in hell continued beyond an hundred, thousand, million years, forever and ever. A brief period of satisfaction here on earth, a long period, eternal, everlasting of having torment and no drop of water to cool his tongue.

vs 25-26. Abraham said his request could not be granted because a great gulf between them would not allow crossing from one side to the other. What a pity on that man!

2. Repentance and Forsaking Sins before Eternal Life (Mark 10:21,28; Acts 26:20; Luke 15:18-24; Revelation 2:4-5)

Mark 10:21. Jesus loved the man because he ran to Him. We too run to church to hear His word, know His mind, have eternal life, and because of that, He loves us. We have a load to carry, and we don’t have extra strength, but we bend and you carry it until further help comes, He loves us because we are doing what we can, while waiting for Him to help us do what we could not do for ourselves. We are sensible to know that He is the good Master, Teacher, Saviour, Redeemer who will give us the grace to live a good life to get to heaven, and for that, He loves us.

What if the man said, “Christ, I want you but I don’t have the strength, you have given me the right answer, I wish I could do that, but I don’t have the strength and power in me to do it, can You give me grace, and enablement?” Paul said the grace of God enabled him. The grace of God can enable us if we ask Him, but the man didn’t ask. He was a self made man, he thought he could do it all by himself but he could not, and went away sad. Don’t go away, stay there, ask Him for the grace, you have fallen and fallen, don’t say there is no point, you fell because you depended on your own strength, why don’t you come and believe on the Lord, and depend on Him, and He will give you grace and mercy that will help you to have eternal life.

vs 28. Peter said, “Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.” The man could not leave all as the Lord said, “sell it, give it away, come follow me”. Other people did it, it was not by their strength, we know that Peter did not have the strength to do that all by himself. He asked, “Lord is that you walking on the water?” Jesus said, “yes I am”, Peter said, “if you are the one, bid me come unto thee”, He said, “come”, and grace and Spirit put him on the water and he walked and went to JESUS. Whatever we cannot do in our own strength, He’s given us grace to do. You want eternal life so desperately? Ask Him for grace and He will help you, enable you and you will be able to live. But you must have faith in Him. By grace we can come, and by grace we can receive help.
