In a thought-provoking engagement at the National Assembly, Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, representing Ondo North Senatorial District, delivered an inspiring message to members of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) during their legislative visit.

The delegation, led by Speaker Daniel Adewale, embarked on this visit to observe the inner workings of the Senate and gain firsthand knowledge of the legislative process and governance structure. For many of these students, the experience was a rare opportunity to witness the heartbeat of democracy in action.
Welcoming the students, Senator Ipinsagba underscored the importance of responsible leadership, critical thinking, and national development, urging them to see themselves as future decision-makers in Nigeria.

“The quality of leadership that shapes a nation is built long before individuals assume positions of authority,” he stated. “Leadership is not about titles; it is about responsibility, vision, and the courage to drive positive change.”
He emphasised that the youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are the architects of today. He urged the students to equip themselves with the right mindset, skills, and ethics needed to excel in leadership roles in governance, business, and society.

During their visit, the students observed the Senate’s plenary session, gaining practical exposure to policymaking, lawmaking, and governance mechanisms. Senator Ipinsagba encouraged them to embrace political awareness, national development, and advocacy for progressive policies.

“Witnessing legislative proceedings firsthand will give you a deeper understanding of the complexities of governance. It is not just about passing laws but about shaping policies that transform lives,” he remarked.
He further urged them to engage in meaningful activities that foster growth and unity rather than succumb to divisive or destructive tendencies.

“Your energy should be invested in innovation, collaboration, and self-development. He emphasised that Nigeria needs thinkers, builders, and problem solvers who will challenge the status quo and redefine excellence,” he emphasised.

In response, Speaker Daniel Adewale expressed profound appreciation for the opportunity, noting that the visit was an eye-opening experience that deepened their understanding of governance.

“This visit has given us a new perspective on leadership and nation-building. Watching the legislative process up close has inspired us to become more proactive in shaping policies that impact our generation,” Adewale said.
The visit also reinforced the importance of mentorship, civic participation, and youth engagement in politics. The students expressed their commitment to becoming change agents in various spheres of influence.
Beyond this engagement, Senator Ipinsagba has consistently championed youth development and empowerment initiatives. In July 2024, he facilitated a skills acquisition programme for over 100 women and youths in Ondo North, equipping them with entrepreneurial skills in soap making, among other trades.

“Empowering young people and women is one of the most effective ways to build a resilient economy. By providing them with skills and resources, we are not just tackling unemployment—we are creating a generation of self-sufficient individuals who can contribute meaningfully to national development,” he remarked.
The senator’s unwavering commitment to education, skills acquisition, and economic empowerment continues to inspire a new wave of young leaders dedicated to transforming Nigeria’s future.

Senator Ipinsagba’s engagement with FUTA students is a testament to the power of mentorship, knowledge sharing, and political inclusion. His call to action for visionary leadership, innovation, and active citizenship resonates beyond the walls of the National Assembly—it is a blueprint for the next generation of Nigerian leaders.

As the visit concluded, one message was clear: Nigeria’s future lies in the hands of young people willing to rise, learn, and lead with integrity and purpose.
