Ghanaian rapper Shatta Wale has shared his side of what he believes caused the breakdown of his friendship with Nigerian music star Burna Boy, claiming false rumours spread by former members of his team drove a wedge between them.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, Shatta Wale said Burna Boy was one of the few Nigerian artistes who personally reached out before visiting Ghana, a gesture that marked the beginning of a close friendship.

According to the rapper, he welcomed Burna Boy at the airport and ensured he enjoyed a comfortable stay in Ghana by providing accommodation, transport and other support.

“I was treating Burna Boy like a king. I was showing him the ropes of Ghana like this is my town. I gave him a house, cars, and anything he needed. He wasn’t wasting money in Ghana,” he said.

Shatta Wale, however, alleged that things changed after he dismissed several members of his team over misconduct. He claimed the former associates retaliated by spreading damaging rumours to influential people in his life, including Burna Boy.

Among the allegations, he said the group falsely claimed he had an affair with Burna Boy’s girlfriend during the singer’s stay in Ghana.

“I had billionaire friends they called. They wanted to break me to everybody,” he alleged.

The rapper said Burna Boy never confronted him over the claims, leaving him puzzled when the Nigerian star suddenly stopped responding to his messages.

“When he left Ghana, everything was still fine. I kept messaging him as I saw him moving forward in his career, but he never replied. I didn’t know they had told him that, and he decided not to speak to me,” he said.

Despite the fallout, Shatta Wale said he harbours no ill feelings towards Burna Boy, although he admitted he was disappointed that the Grammy-winning singer never gave him an opportunity to explain his side of the story.

Burna Boy has not publicly responded to Shatta Wale’s allegations as of the time of filing this report.
