Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to lead a distinguished array of dignitaries at this year’s International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The conference and AGM are scheduled for 2 and 3 December 2025 at the NICON Luxury Hotel, situated in Abuja’s Central Business District.
The event, according to the organisers, is expected to draw an impressive roster of national and international personalities. Among those confirmed are the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi.
Others are: Professor of Mass Communication and Registrar of Baze University, Abiodun Adeniyi; former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; former spokesperson to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Garba Shehu; and former State Chief of Protocol to Buhari, Ambassador Lawal Kazaure.
Additionally, several other prominent figures and senior media leaders are expected to attend.
This includes the Executive Director of IPI Global, Scott Griffen, and former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba.
Likewise, presidents of key media associations will be present, such as Maiden Alex-Ibru of the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN); Eze Anaba of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE); Danlami Nmodu, mni, of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP); and Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdul of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
At the conference, Vice President Shettima will chair proceedings, while Minister Idris will deliver special remarks.
Scott Griffen is set to present a message of solidarity from the IPI headquarters in Vienna, Austria. Meanwhile, Professor Adeniyi will unveil IPI Nigeria’s Book of Infamy, and the President of IPI Nigeria, Musikilu Mojeed, will oversee a Surprise Honorary Event.
The conference will commence with the presentation of the first paper, “Addressing Media Repression in Nigeria: Safeguarding Press Freedom and Democratic Accountability,” delivered by Edetaen Ojo, Executive Director of Media Rights Agenda (MRA).
The session, it was stated, will be moderated by Funke Egbemode, with panel contributions from Lanre Arogundade, Executive Director of the International Press Centre; Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin; Busola Ajibola, Deputy Director at the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID); and Idayat Hassan, Special Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Following this, the second paper, titled “Building Sustainable Media in Nigeria: Navigating Innovation, Credibility, and Revenue Challenges,” will be presented by Isiaq Ajibola, President/CEO of CBD MediaEdge Communications Limited and Co-Founder of Media Trust Limited.
Activities on the second day will be reserved exclusively for IPI Nigeria members, concluding with the induction of new members into the organisation, the organisers added.
