The University of Abuja has mandated academic departments to engage in partnerships with industries to cultivate relevant skills among students.
The move is aimed at equipping students with practical skills and industry-relevant knowledge to meet up with the evolving demands of the job market.

Vice chancellor of the University, Prof Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah stated this at a news conference in Abuja on Friday.

“We have now made it compulsory for every academic department to have an industry partner.
“We have a centre that is doing only that, it is called Centre for Internship and Linkages; it works to look for industry partners for academic programmes,” he said.

The vice chancellor also disclosed that the institution’s International Institute for Publishing Studies (UIIPS) has commenced a professional master’s degree programme as part of the move to address lack of professional programmes in Publishing Studies in Nigeria.

The director of the Institute, Professor Chris Ogbondah, said the institute would offer 12-month programmes for master’s degree.
