The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded affirmation primaries for its senatorial candidates in Sokoto State, with serving lawmakers and party nominees returning unopposed across the three senatorial districts.
The exercises, held in Sokoto Central, Sokoto North, and Sokoto South/East zones, were supervised by an election committee deployed from the APC National Headquarters.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders monitored the affirmation process.
In Sokoto North, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko was affirmed as the party’s sole candidate during the exercise held at the APC Secretariat along Sultan Abubakar Road, Sokoto.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for Sokoto North Senatorial District, Barr. Nasiru Muhammad Binji, who also serves as the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, said the process was conducted in line with the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and APC guidelines.
“Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko was the sole aspirant who submitted Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the position. He was screened and cleared by the party and is hereby declared the sole candidate to contest the seat,” Binji said.
Similarly, Senator Abdullahi Danbaba Dambuwa was affirmed as the party’s candidate for Sokoto South Senatorial District, while Alhaji Umar Ajiya emerged as the candidate for Sokoto East Senatorial District.
Leader of the APC National Headquarters delegation, Hon. Hadi Ukashatu, commended the peaceful conduct of the affirmation exercises across the state, describing the process as orderly and credible.
Speaking after his affirmation, Senator Wamakko expressed gratitude to God and the people of Sokoto State for their continued support, while also calling for forgiveness over any perceived shortcomings in his public service.
He noted that both he and Governor Ahmad Aliyu remain human and “capable of mistakes,” urging unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event was attended by Governor Ahmad Aliyu, his deputy Engr. Idris Muhammad Gobir, Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, members of the National and State Assemblies, former Deputy Governor Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo, former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State Sen. Hassan Muhammad Nasiha Gusau, APC State Chairman Alhaji Haruna SG Adiya, and other stakeholders.
The APC said the affirmation process reflects growing internal consensus within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
