Sokoto Records 300 Meningitis Cases

Sokoto State government has confirmed 300 cases of meningitis in local government areas of the state.

The commissioner for health, Dr Farouk Abubakar, said yesterday at a sensitisation campaign organised by the State Ward Development Committee forum in collaboration with the state Ministry of Health and the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency that 16 persons were receiving treatment in hospitals while the rest had been discharged.

The special adviser on state primary healthcare development agency, Dr Muhammad Bello Marnona and executive secretary of the agency, Dr Larai Aliyu Tambuwal, said the disease was preventable and advised people to visit nearby health facilities whenever they noticed any sign.

The chairman of the area, Malam Ya’u Muhammad Danda who was represented by the vice chairman, Alh Faruk Umar Garba, described the meeting as timely.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar who was represented by the district head of Gagi, Alhaji Sani Umar Jabbi, thanked the state government for its commitment to improving the health of the people.
