A sociopolitical group, Rescue Alaigbo, has risen in defence of the Nigeria Police Force’s Tiger Base in Imo State, dismissing recent allegations against the unit as “false propaganda” aimed at destabilising the region.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the group’s coordinator, Chizorom Harrison Ofoegbu, said the campaign against the Tiger Base has “nothing to do with the wellbeing of any law-abiding citizen living in Imo State.”
He warned that similar attempts in the past had led to “carnage of unimaginable proportion” and left many communities without police presence. “Any who thinks absence of policing is better than imperfect policing should relocate to Okigwe, Umuaka, Umunoha, Orodo, Ogbunka and other communities in the South-East region where the IPOB ESN Biafraud bandits hold sway,” Ofoegbu said.
According to him, communities once ravaged by insecurity are now regaining stability.
“Overwhelming portions of Orsu, Orlu and Oru East/West local government areas is mostly peaceful, thanks to the combined efforts of the operatives at the Tiger Base and their sister agencies,” he noted.
Rescue Alaigbo accused political actors of fuelling chaos and spreading unfounded claims, including allegations of organ trafficking. “First they screamed the trafficking of human organs without any shred of evidence. It is not coincidental that the lie started the same week the operatives at the Tiger Base uncovered an organ trafficking ring being run from one Chief Morocco Oparaku, an owner of morgue and a hotel at Ngor Okpala,” the group stated.
He also pointed to similar attacks on police units in Anambra and Enugu, describing them as part of a coordinated smear campaign. “We admit the imperfections of some of the operatives and the possibility of gross violations of professional ethics here and there, but destabilising or dismantling a formidable fighting force like the Owerri Tiger Base is keeping the farm open for the wolves and the jackals to feast on the herd,” Ofoegbu said
Rescue Alaigbo urged journalists to “ascertain the real motives behind whatever information being peddled about the police, especially in the South-East,” stressing that the Tiger Base remains a critical bulwark against insecurity in Imo State.
