Stakeholders in Nigeria’s public and private sectors have endorsed a new initiative to equip young women with consulting, leadership and entrepreneurial skills to bridge the gap between education and professional practice.

They spoke yesterday in Abuja at the unveiling of the NextGen Project by Women in Corporate Consulting Africa (WICA).

The speakers described mentorship, capacity development and practical skills as critical to preparing women for emerging opportunities in an economy increasingly shaped by technology and artificial intelligence.

The convener of NextGen Consult, Mrs Nanbilip Chomo, said the initiative was inspired by her personal journey and the need to ensure that young women no longer struggle to access guidance, opportunities and professional networks.

She said the project would focus on training, mentoring and monitoring participants to become competent consultants, entrepreneurs and transformational leaders.”

“The world today is changing rapidly. Artificial intelligence, innovation and emerging industries are creating opportunities that never existed before. But opportunities alone are not enough. Young people need knowledge, mentors and practical guidance,” she said.

According to her, the programme seeks to help young women acquire practical consulting skills, connect with experienced professionals and receive continuous support throughout their career development.

Representing the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Mrs. Ojeaburu Arinola Grace, on behalf of the Director of Education and Youth Development, Mr. Despan Kwarden, described the initiative as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s youth.

She said creating pathways for young women to access mentorship, capacity building and career opportunities aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to youth empowerment under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
