Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Langtang North local government area of Plateau state have rejected the endorsement of the senator representing Plateau South in the National Assembly, Senator Simon Lalong, for a second term in office.
They said it was done by a few individuals with no grassroots relevance, adding that such an endorsement devalued the senator’s personality.
The secretary of Taroh APC Integrity Group in Langtang North council Nimpon Danjuma told LEADERSHIP that the attention of the concerned members of the Langtang North APC family had been drawn to a press statement in the media on the endorsement of Senator Simon Bako Lalong for re-election by a few, selective individuals parading themselves as stakeholders of the party.
He said, “While we acknowledge the right of party members to express personal political preferences, it is essential to clarify that the said endorsement does not reflect the collective position of APC stakeholders in Langtang North, nor does it represent the broader voice of Tarokland.
“Our concern stems from the political antecedents of some of the endorsers, whose electoral history indicates that they have not demonstrated the capacity to deliver their polling units for the APC since the party’s emergence in the state and zone,” he said.
Danjuma argued that it raises fundamental questions about the weight and strategic value of an endorsement driven by personalities with limited electoral footprint at the grassroots level.
“We wish to place on record that the only real window of opportunity for the APC to decisively deliver many polling units in Langtang North and across Tarokland in the 2027 elections lies with the recent entry of Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang into the party.
“His growing political influence, grassroots connection, and acceptance across districts present a fresh strategic asset that the party must leverage wisely and inclusively.
“It is therefore misleading for a handful of individuals to suggest unanimity where none exists, particularly at a time when the APC is experiencing a new phase of expansion and political realignment in the Southern Zone,” he said.
