A women group, the Nigerian Women in Information Technology (NIWIIT) has launched the 2026 edition of the RoboGirls with Their Ally Boys Training and Competition in Abuja.

It is aimed at equipping students with practical skills in robotics and emerging technologies.

At  the ceremony, president of NIWIIT, Dr Oluwakemi Ayodele, said the initiative was designed to inspire and empower young Nigerians, especially girls and their supportive male counterparts, to explore opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

“Technology is no longer optional; it is the language of the future,” Ayodele said.

She added that robotics, artificial intelligence, coding, data science and cybersecurity were transforming industries, shaping economies and solving global challenges, stressing that Nigerian youths must not be left behind.

According to her, the programme offers students hands-on experience in robotics and technology while helping them develop problem-solving, teamwork and leadership skills.

“This programme is more than just a training and competition. It is an opportunity for you to learn, collaborate, innovate and discover your potential,” she said.

Ayodele encouraged participants to remain creative, confident and disciplined throughout the programme, noting that the experience and exposure gained would be more valuable than winning prizes alone.

She also appreciated principals, teachers, parents, partners, sponsors and volunteers for supporting the initiative and investing in the future of Nigerian children.
