Nigeria’s Super Eagles have retained their position as the 26th-best men’s national team in the world in the latest rankings released by FIFA on Wednesday.
The rankings, which reflect matches played during the recent international window, show the three-time African champions maintaining their standing despite a mixed run of results in March.
Under head coach Éric Chelle, Nigeria played two friendlies, beginning with a hard-earned 2–1 victory over Iran national football team. The win highlighted the team’s attacking quality and resilience.
However, the Super Eagles were unable to build on that momentum in their second outing, settling for a 2–2 draw against Jordan national football team. The combination of results left Nigeria’s points tally unchanged, ensuring they remain 26th globally.
On the African stage, Nigeria continue to rank among the continent’s elite, holding on to third place behind Morocco national football team, who sit eighth in the world, and Senegal national football team, ranked 14th globally. Algeria national football team and Egypt national football team complete Africa’s top five, just behind Nigeria.
At the summit of the global rankings, France national football team have returned to the top spot, overtaking Spain national football team following recent international fixtures among the game’s leading nations.
Attention now turns to the next rankings update, with FIFA confirming that the subsequent release will be published on 10 June 2026, a revision that could reshape both the global and African standings as more competitive matches are played.
