Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie has deactivated her Instagram account following a wave of online criticism after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Super Falcons’ hopes of reaching the tournament in Brazil were ended by a 2-1 defeat to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the decisive qualifying play-off.
The result means Nigeria will miss the Women’s World Cup for the first time since the competition was inaugurated in 1991.
Following the defeat, several Super Falcons players were subjected to criticism and online abuse from frustrated supporters, with Alozie among those targeted.
The Houston Dash defender subsequently deactivated her Instagram account, apparently in response to the intense online scrutiny.
Nigeria’s disappointing campaign came after the Super Falcons were eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations at the quarter-final stage, following a 1-0 defeat by Cameroon in Morocco.
