Suppressed Constituencies: Halims Protests Exclusion Of Enjema, Ogodu In Kogi

JjjThe Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Dr. Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims, has expressed concern over the exclusion of Enjema and Ogodu state constituencies in Kogi State from the list of recently reactivated suppressed constituencies announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Halims said he was disappointed that despite his early efforts to revive the agitation for the restoration of suppressed constituencies, his federal constituency was left out of the commission’s decision.

According to him, he has formally submitted a memorandum to INEC seeking clarification on why the two state constituencies in Ankpa, Olamaboro and Omala Federal Constituency of Kogi State were omitted from the approved list.

“I have submitted a memo to INEC and I am awaiting its response on why these two state constituencies from Ankpa, Olamaboro and Omala Federal Constituency were removed from the list already announced by the commission.

“I initiated discussions on the review of this matter alongside notable legal practitioners to push for the revival of suppressed constituencies in Kogi State before others joined the agitation across the country. I feel disappointed that my people did not benefit from the outcome,” he said.

Halims appealed to constituents to remain patient and continue supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections to sustain democratic gains and development in the area.

He assured that he would continue engaging relevant authorities to ensure the decision is revisited.

“It is unfortunate, but I will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion to ensure the decision is reversed or reviewed,” he added.

The lawmaker, who recently secured his party’s ticket to seek re-election in 2027, said he had facilitated employment opportunities for more than 400 graduates from the constituency.

He also highlighted his legislative interventions, including support for bills and advocacy for the electrification of Kogi East Senatorial District, which is captured in the 2026 budget.

Halims said completing the Kogi East electrification project would remain one of his major priorities if re-elected in 2027.

“My major focus is to ensure the completion of the Kogi East electrification project if given another opportunity to serve,” he said.
