Unknown gunmen suspected to be assassins, on Sunday, shot at the traditional ruler of Bangha Kingdom in Ogoni, Rivers State, King Suanu Baridam.

Although details of the attack remained sketchy at press time, but a prominent Ogoni environmental rights activist, Dr. Fyneface Dumnamene, said the attack was unacceptable and a threat to Bangha Kingdom.

Taking to his Facebook page, he wrote: “I have received a shocking, regrettable, and sad report this evening that our King, His Royal Majesty, Mene Dr. Suanu T.Y. Baridam, JP, the First Class King of Ancient Bangha Kingdom, has been shot by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

“This is unacceptable and a threat to Bangha Kingdom and the traditional institution in general. I call on the Commissioner of Police to investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“I also urge the Governor of the state to join forces with security agencies to ensure the King’s protection going forward. May the Almighty God heal and keep the King.”
