The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has declared the election that resulted in the appointment of Olatutu Oladunni as Chairman and Bello Omotunde as Secretary of the association invalid.
In a statement issued by Chimezie Anaso, Chairman of the SWAN @60 Media and Publicity Committee, and Secretary Hembadoon Orsar, the National President of SWAN, Benjamin Isaiah, and the Secretary General, Ikenna Okonkwo, confirmed that both individuals remain suspended and have lost the authority to manage or oversee the affairs of the Lagos State chapter since 4th October 2025.
This resolution, made during a meeting of the SWAN NEC, states that the Lagos State Chapter’s operations will henceforth be overseen by Aaron Akerejola, the Vice Chairman, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations by the Independent Investigation Committee.
It is important to note that Olatutu and Omotunde were suspended and prohibited from all association activities as per a decision of the NEC, in accordance with Article 21, Sections (1) A and C of the SWAN Statute.
“Their suspensions took immediate effect, stripping them of any legitimacy to act on behalf of SWAN.”
The SWAN NEC also emphasised that no legitimate elections have been conducted for the Lagos State chapter, and any such events purportedly organised by Olatutu and her associates are null and void.
Consequently, the national leadership of SWAN has alerted security agencies, corporate partners, media organisations, and the public regarding the unlawful activities of the suspended members and advised against engaging with them.
“Olatutu Oladunni and Bello Omotunde should not be approached for any matters concerning SWAN. Their continued claims of being officials of the SWAN Lagos Chapter constitute impersonation and a serious violation of the association’s statutes.
“As a professional association, SWAN remains committed to upholding the law and will continue to cooperate with relevant security authorities to ensure that due process, order, and statutory discipline are maintained within its ranks,” the statement concluded.
