Organisers of the second annual SWAN/Newstap Award have announced the formation of a three-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) to oversee the event.
According to a press release from Ifeanyi Eduzor, Editor of Newstap.com.ng, the LOC will be chaired by the Deputy Editor of Telegraph Newspapers. The committee also includes veteran journalist and Group Sports Editor of Vanguard Newspaper, Tony Ubani, and Jay Jay Akanji, former media aide to Sunday Dare, one-time Minister of Sports.
The LOC’s remit is to ensure a seamless award ceremony and to recommend five deserving awardees from the hundreds of nominations received by the award committee.
“We have initiated the process to deliver an award that will be among the best in the history of sports awards in the country, and we eagerly anticipate the LOC developing strategies to make this edition a memorable one.”
Adekunle Salami, Chairman of the LOC, expressed gratitude to the organisers for their appointment and pledged that the committee would not disappoint.
The inaugural edition, chaired by Mallam Shehu Dikko, then Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), saw Abubakar Lawal (Managing Director of GTI Group), Ebi Egbe (Chief Executive Officer of Monimichelle sports facilities construction Ltd), Honourable Kunle Soname (Founder of Remo Stars Football Club of Ikenne Remo), and Chief Barrister Paul Edeh (Chairman of Benue State Football Association) among the recipients
