Ahead of the October 2 deadline for the enforcement of the law on tinted glass permit, the Taraba State commissioner of police, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, has warned his personnel not to see the exercise as an opportunity to extort car owners.

The commissioner also cautioned them to desist from any civil related cases and any form of human rights abuses in order not to tarnish the image of the force.

This was contained in a statement signed by James Lashen Saminu, the command’s public relations officer, a copy which was made available to LEADERSHIP in Jalingo.

CP Otimenyin, in the statement was addressing Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders, during a strategic meeting held at the command’s headquarters, ahead of the enforcement date in Jalingo.

The statement called on the personnel to be professional in their conduct and be mindful of key operational issues within the command.

While urging members of the public to apply for their tinted glass permits through http://www.possap.gov.ng, it encouraged the public to reach out to this phone number 08141387931, against activities of the personnel.

The statement reads in part: “During the meeting, the CP issued a stern warning against all forms of extortion, indiscriminate arrests, incivility to the members of the public, dealing on cases of civil disputes, including land, tenancy, inheritance, debt recovery, contractual breaches, and domestic disagreements, which are civil cases outside police jurisdiction.

The statement further warned “Against unauthorised roadblocks, misconduct,” and stressed that, “the forthcoming enforcement of tinted glass permit regulations, commencing on October 2, 2025, should not be turned into extortion. Drivers are advised to comply with the regulations to avoid any inconvenience.”

It however, “directed the CP Monitoring Unit and X-Squad to embark on intensive patrols to monitor police activities,” she added.
