Following the recent flooding and the flash flood that entered people’s houses in some parts of Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has deployed a search and rescue team to the affected areas.

The swift response was to comprehensively assess vulnerable communities, including Sabon Layi and Gadan Bobboji.

SEMA Executive Secretary Audu Echuseh said the team gathered critical information on the extent of damage and developed strategies for long-term preventive measures.

According to her, the team also engaged with the community leaders and residents, and emphasised a collective action in mitigating future risks.

Therefore, Echuseh advised residents of the areas to maintain clear drainage systems and relocate to safer places to avoid loss of lives, adding that community cooperation is vital in flood control.

“The assessment will inform relief material provision and robust flood control infrastructure development, including new culverts and drainage channel rehabilitation.

“The Taraba State Government prioritises transforming the state into a secure environment, where every resident feels safe, with their safety being the governor’s top priority.

She reiterated Governor Agbu Kefas’s commitment to building resilient communities through education, infrastructure development, and early warning systems.

While urging citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent accidents and injuries during this period, Echuseh stressed that the agency remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in the state.

However, the team evacuated trapped residents and assisted in affected areas, including houses behind the Legislative quarters in Jalingo.
