An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Taraba State, Chief David Sabo Kente, has reaffirmed his interest in running for the governorship of the state, saying Governor Agbu Kefas’ purported defection plan would be an added advantage.
In an interview with journalists, Kente, who lost the primary in 2023, said that although he had not confirmed it, the likelihood of Governor Agbu Kefas decamping from the PDP to the ruling APC would not diminish his chances but would be a blessing to the party.
He said, “The Zonal Chairman, North East, mentioned the possibility of the governor decamping when he met us, and said APC’s popularity was the reason, but cautioned against implosion within the party at the end of the day.”
Kente added that the move would be a plus for the people of Southern Taraba, after 12 years of PDP rule, and that it would be proper to allow Kefas to complete the remaining four years.
He said if the governor eventually joins the APC, it would further strengthen Taraba and solidify the party in its effort to gain power in the state.
“A house well-built attracts people. So, the PDP, as a house that has collapsed, has found the APC as an opportunity to continue politicking. If Governor Kefas comes in and builds a formidable team, the APC will certainly win the 2027 election,” he added.
