TCN Foils Attempted Theft At Bauchi Substation, Recovers Tower Components

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has foiled an attempted theft at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi, recovering critical transmission tower components and a vehicle allegedly used by the suspects.

The incident occurred on Friday, July 24, 2026, when security personnel on routine patrol intercepted suspected vandals attempting to steal vital tower members from the facility.

In a chat with journalists on Monday, TCN’s general manager, public affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the suspects abandoned the operation and fled immediately after sighting the security guards.

According to him, a thorough inspection of the scene led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale, and a white pickup truck believed to have been used in the attempted theft.

Mbah disclosed that the recovered items, including the vehicle, have been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation and possible arrest of those involved.

He noted that no transmission equipment was stolen and no injuries were recorded during the incident.

The TCN commended the swift response and vigilance of its security personnel, stressing that their timely intervention prevented damage to critical power transmission infrastructure.

The company also appealed to residents of host communities to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities around electricity installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office, describing public cooperation as crucial to safeguarding the nation’s power infrastructure.
