Heels and Tech, leading tech firm that focuses on empowering females to be gurus in science and technology has partnered Covenant University to hold its maiden “Innovate-her-ideathon” in addition to the latest Proverbs 31 Woman Conference events in Lagos State.
The Proverbs 31 Woman Conference which held Friday, July 21, 2023 is an annual event that seeks to empower women by exploring Proverbs 31 wisdom.
The conference featured keynote speakers, workshops, and interactive sessions designed to inspire and equip women to be community leaders.
According to the Chief Exective Officer of the firm, Bisola Alabi, “Our goal with this ideathon is to provide a platform for young women to showcase their talent and creativity while also contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 1 (No poverty) and 10 (Reduced Inequality).
“We had 24 participants for the ideathon with 7 teams and 3 individual participants. From their submissions, the innovate-her team selected the top 5 submissions for our judges to grade. Our primary judge was Adora Nwodo”
Alabi highlighted the top five ideas from the event as BecomingHer – which is passionate about cultivating, fueling and sustaining the ambition within every woman through an empowering community; UBcodes Jobfinder – which is the merge of a job finder, educational and a goal tracker app; Agroaid – which seeks to “Eliminate Poverty By Empowering Sustainable Agriculture”.
Others are Greenmass – which provides an agricultural solution that combines a green mass sensor with hydroponics and renewable energy; Charvest Becoming Her (a team of 5 led by Lemoha Chigozie) emerged as the winner.
The second place was UBcodes Jobfinder (by Etop-Essien Emmanuella Ubok-Abasi) while Agro-aid (a team of 2 led by Stephanie Onwuagbaizu emerged in third place). Greenmass and Charvest emerged 4th and 5th respectively.
She however said her firm shared the money (N50,000) among the top 3 by giving N20,000 to the first place, N15,000 to the second place and N10,000 to the third place while the remaining N5000 was used to cover refreshments for the final event.
Meanwhile, Heels and Tech financed the competition with the the cash prize which was shared amongst the 3 top groups.
