Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), in partnership with Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), has trained 1,000 students and 15 staff members on career planning, professional growth, and workplace readiness.

The training was organised by the university’s Directorate of Human Resource and Career Development and fully sponsored by TETFund. The workshop was designed to enhance the professional capacity of both students and staff.

Speaking yesterday on the training, SAZU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fatimah Tahir, said the initiative aligns with the institution’s commitment to producing graduates who are both academically sound and professionally competitive.

“This workshop is a deliberate step towards institutionalising career guidance and industry engagement across all faculties.

“Through TETFund’s intervention, we can now create sustainable structures that provide lifelong career support for students and alumni,” she added.

Themed “Empowering Future Professionals: Mastering Career Tools, Building Networks, and Navigating Opportunities”, the training featured capacity building for Faculty Career Officers and dedicated staff who will serve as anchors for career programmes within their respective faculties.

For his part, Director of Human Resource and Career Development of the institution, Dr. Wasilu Suleman, described the training as a turning point for SAZU, placing career development at the heart of academic excellence.

He told participants they were more than support staff, but “mentors, facilitators, connectors, and enablers” who would help students discover purpose, build competence, and compete effectively in today’s labour market.

Facilitators covered a range of topics including CV and cover letter writing, internship and volunteer opportunities, mock interviews, and negotiation skills.

According to Suleman, with the completion of the training, participants are expected to drive career initiatives across the university and better guide students in navigating opportunities in an increasingly competitive job market.
